Hybrid Ratings

Use the tools on this website, or direct experience, to compare then rate one or more vehicles. Shortly, once we've gotten enough user ratings, we will include these on the main page. This is not intended to be ratings only by owners, we're trying to account for all the subjectiveness that makes it hard to compare using just the raw specifications.

The overall quality and value of a hybrid is a subjective matter. It's not purely quantitative because simple MPG comparisons aren't always valid. For example, it's not easy to compare the Prius to the Escape because they target different segments. We can say the Prius is better for most quantitative measures like MPG but we also need to consider the relative impact of the hybrid vs. it's non-hybrid competition.

As an example consider the Civic Hybrid and the Escape Hybrid. The Civic gets a blended MPG of about 46 and the Escape about 33. Just based on that metric the Civic looks better, but the Escape has an improvement of about 13 MPG over it's non-hybrid counterpart whereas for the Civic it's about 11. Considering that a person is unlikely to change the class of vehicle they're purchasing we could say the Escape Hybrid has a better improvement in MPG.

These are the kinds of criteria we use to compare the relative rating of each hybrid since they're all so different.
